Water Quality Project Update

You will recall that in July 2015 public consultation drop-ins were conducted in relation to a proposal to improve the water quality of several of Canberra’s waterways. Equestrians made an impression by their participation at the various sessions and their on-line feedback. The ACT Equestrian Association made submissions in regard to catchments that appeared to impact equestrian activities. The Basin Priority Project has now released…

Stromlo Forest Park Master Plan

Residents in Weston Creek have received a postcard inviting them to have their say about the ‘new’ Mount Stromlo Master Plan. This Master Plan doesn’t differ a great deal from that created in 2009. There were several issues with that Plan including equestrian trails marked on impossible terrain or leading nowhere and a luge and a chairlift over Bluegums. ACTEA commented on this in some…

Update on Heritage Listing of Equestrian Park Cross-country Course

Without doubt due to the overwhelming 117 submissions from the equestrian community, any heritage listing of the Yarralumla Woolshed has been delayed by the Minister for Planning. At this stage, it is anticipated the Council will make its final decision on registration of the site at its meeting of 19 November 2015. It seems very unlikely that the Council will change its mind about including…

Fencing of Tuggeranong Parkway Near the Zoo Underpass

Since the 2003 bushfires ACTEA has regularly sought replacement of the old stock fence that ran along the Tuggeranong Parkway near the pine forest south of the Zoo. Riders were concerned that one day a startled horse could run on to the Parkway. This became a bigger issue when the Zoo expanded southward to the old underpass which now goes directly into the Arboretum. There…
