For many years there has been an equestrian route from Kaleen Horse Paddocks, around the edge of the Crace Gracelands in Mitchell, across Flemington Road, and by various routes past EPIC to the Federal Highway, then up the green space in Watson to Mount Majura.
Changes in the area north of EPIC, upgrading of Well Station Road and finally the routing of the Canberra Metro along Flemington Road have put great pressure on this connection.
ACTEA and Kaleen agistees has been in consultation with the ACT government and the Canberra Metro since early 2015 to protect this link. We can now advise that thanks to the combined assistance of Parks & Conservation, the Environment & Planning Directorate, Canberra Metro and the generosity of EPIC there will be a connection between Kaleen Horse Paddocks and Mount Majura. This will involve:
- a new connection between the fenced equestrian trail around Crace Grasslands
- a rider operated signalised crossing of Flemington Road (the second such crossing in Canberra and probably the fourth in Australia)
- a route through EPIC to lights on the Federal Highway accessed via a purpose built coded locked gate for equestrians close to the crossing.
ACTEA will advise when the infrastructure is in place and operational.
