Next Chapter in the Dog Park Story

On 8 November people who have participated in the public consultation on the proposed Weston Creek off-leash dog park received an email from the Transport Canberra & City Services Directorate advising that the three sites short-listed in Holder, Chapman and Waramanga had been found unsuitable. A big thank you to everyone who objected to the Chapman site!

Another site, on Eucumbene Drive in Duffy, has now been investigated and will proposed as a suitable location. The ACT Equestrian Association was, this time, consulted about the option as the Bicentennial National Trail passes up Warragamba Avenue and crosses Eucumbene Drive onto Narrabundah Hill. This mud map shows the site of the proposed park. You cannot see it at all from Warragamba Avenue. There are two banks of trees between it and the big green space on that verge. It is downhill from the Warragamba verge and although you may be able to hear dogs they will be invisible and some distance away.

The dog park design will be subject to a Development Approval process which includes an opportunity for the community to provide comment on the design proposal. Key stakeholders and nearby residents will be able to provide feedback on the proposed site. Construction on the new dog park is expected to commence in 2017.
