Orroral Valley Fire – Update

The ESA has declared the Orroral Valley fire to be at Emergency level and recommended at 4pm that residents of Tharwa leave immediately. People in BANKS, CONDER, GORDON, CALWELL and surrounding areas are not under threat but are advised to monitor the situation and stay up to date.

People who have horses at or near Freshford and Lions Youth Haven should pay attention to developments as they might impact on road closures in your area and therefore on your horse’s bushfire plan.

The Fire Commissioner has just given an update on the Watch and Act fire south of Tharwa. While it is burning away from the village at the moment it is very active and we are expecting a wind change later this evening. The Boboyan Road is closed at the Namadgi Visitors Centre to everyone except residents.

Please monitor the ESA website for hourly updates.

Georgeina Whelan has advised that EPIC has been designated as an evacuation centre for horses in the area if leaving early is part of your horse’s bush fire plan.

EPIC is open at all hours to receive horses.

Once you enter EPIC, please make your way directly to the EPIC stables, where you will be required to register your details there.

An EPIC staff member will be available to assist with registration.

Please bring:
*water and feed buckets,
*enough feed for 24 hours plus,
*any horse/s medication and,
*some simple first aid.

PLEASE NOTE SOMEONE MUST STAY WITH THE HORSE/S AT ALL TIMES.
