Wetlands Project in Holder

Environment ACT has advised that they will be commencing their Healthy Waterways Wetland Project in Holder in the next few weeks. The works will take place in the open space between the Cotter Road and the bottom of Dixon Drive. See the map below. The overall size of the project is now expected to be a bit smaller than that shown. The finished works are designed to trap storm water and sediment before it ends up in the North Weston Ponds and thereafter the Molonglo.

The final ponds will be behind the existing stock fence on the wide northern verge of Dixon Drive which is the present route of the Bicentennial National Trail between North Weston Ponds and Eucumbene Drive.

There should be little long term impact on the BNT horse trail. The short term impacts relate mostly to the works site and heavy machinery. ACTEA has met with the contractors and asked them to move their works site further back into the construction area. They will also be putting in a temporary access road opposite Hyndes Crescent but have undertaken to make it as horse friendly as possible. The Temporary Traffic Management Plan will also be designed to take account of passing horses. The whole project is expected to take about 6 months.
