Lyneham Eucalypt Plantation Opened to Horse Riders

Since the middle of last year ACTEA has been talking to Parks and Conservation about ways to find more safe and attractive riding in the inner north especially as the link between Mt Majura and Kaleen Horse Paddocks has been temporarily cut by the construction of the light rail.

These discussions have resulted in a formal opening of the Lyneham Eucalypt Plantation to horse riders. The Plantation lies between Gungahlin Drive, Ellenborough Street and the suburb of Lyneham and north of O’Connor Ridge. You can find it on Map 39 of the UBD.

While some people have been sneaking in there for years to share the shade with grazing cattle and dog walkers it has not been a designated equestrian destination until now. After a short local consultation which result in no objections from local residents, the equestrian trail signs have gone in and a new cavaletti has been constructed on the southern side of  Ellenborough Street opposite the driveway into Kaleen Horse Paddocks. The numerous management tracks in the reserve are now getting a lot of use from local riders.

To find the cavaletti, follow the fence line through the woodland to the left away from the locked gate.
